In one of my recent posts, I talked about the book The Miracle Morning by Hal Erod. The whole concept touches on the importance of having some sort of set routine in the morning that helps you prepare for the day ahead. It is about filling your mind, body, and soul with the motivation it needs so that you start off your day feeling great. I don’t follow Hal’s exact routine but I have worked on formulating one for myself that I do some variation of every morning. I know that taking the time to focus on my well being first thing in the morning, whether it be 10 minutes or an hour, truly helps me to live in a more positive state of mind.
Water with Lemon
Every morning, the first thing I do is drink water with lemon or just water if I don’t have any lemons. I have always felt like it is important to hydrate right when you wake up because your body has gone so long without drinking water. There are a ton of reasons why adding lemon to your water is beneficial, ranging from it being a good source of vitamin C to helping to aid in digestion. I like to add it because I find it refreshing and it helps to wake me up quicker. Whether you do lemon or not, your body will thank you for drinking water before reaching for the coffee.
In many of my posts so far I have talked about meditation. I am being completely honest when I say I am still working to get the hang of it myself. I have had some amazing realizations in about five minutes of every morning. Some of those mornings are really just me sitting in silence but all of them I finish feeling a sense of clarity and calmness. I also heard that meditating in the morning leaves you with a very clear mind from just waking up which can be extremely beneficial. There are many guided meditations that you can look up online that cover a whole range of different topics.
Read Some Good Stuff
One thing that has resonated with me the past year is to be mindful of the type of information you allow yourself to absorb. I feel that this is especially true right before you go to bed and the first little while after waking up. When I wake up, I do everything in my power not to go on my phone and check social media. I try to get by without looking at it for at least 20-30 minutes. Instead I like use this time to read books that are empowering and uplifting to get me in a good headspace for the day. This is something I actually try to take very seriously. There is so much toxic news and content in the world that it can be super easy to get caught up in all of it. Take care of your soul by being considerate of what you take in.
Plan for the Day Ahead
Usually I like to jot down some of my goals for the day the night before but I use the mornings to tentatively plan how I am going to tackle them. I think it can be really nice to envision a little how your day is going to be and how you are going to feel after making some major headway. I love making lists so whether I do it at night or in the morning, I always have a list with a whole range of different tasks and goals I want done.
Everyone has different work schedules and availabilities for when they can work out but I know that I feel AMAZING if I exercise in the morning! Whenever time permits for me, I get to working out right after doing all of these morning rituals. If you don’t have time to get sweaty, I think moving in any way in the beginning of the day can truly lead you to having a better day. So take a walk outside, park a little farther from your office, take a moment to stretch. Just get your blood moving to wake you up and help you focus throughout the day.
I hope that by reading about by morning that you possibly get some ideas for yourself! Developing an amazing morning routine can change your life, you deserve that!
